What??? Poop! Oh No You Didn't!

CAUTION: This post may gross some people out.  Read with care and please do not read it while you're eating.

I remember my first day of Microbiology Lab.  We were going over the syllabus and our instructor was discussing all the things that we'd be doing this semester; all the microbes and organisms we'd get to look at under our light microscopes, how we'd get to make yogurt, because as you know yogurt is made of little microorganisms, blah blah blah...

And then he began to discuss Lab #9  "And you'll also have the opportunity to examine enterobacteria and someone from each group will be bringing a fecal sample..."

"We are going to be doing what!!!!?" I screamed loudly inside my head.  You can imagine the looks of disgust and blank stares everyone had!

-"We will be providing you with a cup that you'll get to take home...." he continued.

As soon as he said that I immediately exclaimed " I call NOT IT! (kinda like how I used to yell out when I was little and didn't want to be the tagger but the ta-gee) There's no way in this world that I, Grecia, is going to volunteer to bring in MY poop for everyone to look at and examine, all swirled around in a fixed slide... C'mon, my poop is my poop and nobody gets to look at it.   And yes, I really did call "Not it" out loud.

-"...and we'll discuss this lab in further detail once the day comes."

Well, that day came and it was today.  First of all, I wasn't the one that brought in the poop. Last week I took charge and appointed someone in the group to bring a "bouncy ball" of their poop.  Second of all, the lab wasn't as bad as I expected it to be.  The poop was diluted a little bit in water so it wasn't this big blob type of thing that we'd have underneath our faces.  It was just brown-yellowish liquid in a tube.  The room was a little stinky when I came in this morning from the previous classes and I started gagging, but I just figured that I would have to hold in my breath or not breathe in as deep as much as possible and everything was OK.  Unfortunately, this lab requires time since we have to incubate the tubes for 24hrs., which means that I have to go back tomorrow and Saturday to open lab to finish the experiments.  So I still have yet to see what poop looks like under the microscope.  Depending on what the person ate, I might see tiny pieces of pizza or corn, who knows.

Valentine's Day 2010

I LOVE Valentine's Day.

My AMAZING boyfriend bought me beautiful roses.

Gifted me a cute Teddy bear, which he sprayed with his Mmmm smelling cologne. :)

Took me out for breakfast.  And cooked me a DELICIOUS dinner.  Carne Asada plate with beans, nopales, and a yummy not-so-spicy sauce.

[I actually didn't take a pic of the deliciousness.]

I love him so much.  My life just wouldn't be complete without him.   I'm LUCKY to have him.

Dear John

So is anybody else excited to see this movie!?  I'm a freak for flik chicks.  I love romance movies and ever since I saw the trailer for "Dear John" I've been waiting for it.  Well, guess what? Today it starts playing in theaters! =D  I'm freakin' excited!  I'm totally going to go watch it!  I'm scared that it might not have a happy ending though; I'm so going to pack some Kleenex because I cry at just about every movie.  I still cry when I watch "Lion King I" I'm sorry, I can't help it.  I'm lame like that and well, don't forget... I am a girl.

I guess I will be dragging my boyfriend to the theater this weekend.  ;)

Oh, and one last thing; Channing Tatum is such a hottie.

Have a fabuloso weekend everybody!

Trivia Me

I was reading A Bite of Allison today and found a question/answer post, and decided to steal this idea from her, which she stole from Alex, who stole it from Sam, etc.  So if you have time, read on and get to know some trivial things about me.  (Since I really haven't introduced myself officially but will in the future.)

1. Were you named after anyone?
-Um... well, don't laugh but my mom did pick out my name from one of her favorite Spanish soap operas--- so that is how my name, Grecia (pronounced Grayseeah), came to be. ;)  Which actually, I really do love it because it's not very common in the USA.  I'm glad she named me Grecia, instead of Georgina that was going to be my name at first after my dad who's named George.

2.When was the last time you cried?
-Probably like two weeks ago.  I don't cry often.

-I actually don't drink.  Never have and never will, for personal and religious reasons.

And School Begins

I had been feeling a little depressed last semester and during the break because I just hear students all the time talking about how hard is it to get into the Nursing Program.  I heard about 4.0 students who did extremely well in the entrance exam and still didn't get accepted!!! This is one of those moments where I will use one of Busy Bee Lauren's terminology.  That's Lamespice!  I cried, and cried and you know what?  I'm sick of worrying.  I'm sick of being sad about the possibility of not making it in.  I decided that I'm just not going to think about it anymore.  I will finish my prerequisites.  I will give it my best in all my classes, and I WILL apply to the Nursing Program, regardless of what other people or students may say.  I was not born to be a quitter.  I was not born to give up.  I don't care if I don't get accepted the first time.  I will apply again.  And if UVU doesn't accept me, I will not give up my dream.  I'll retake classes however many times I have to.  I will apply to other schools.   I will do everything to get to where I want to be.  But I refuse to take the easy way.  I refuse to put my dreams aside and change majors like many students do when they get rejected.  As for now, I went and talked with my Nursing Advisor, she looked at my grades and says that I'm on track and that my grades are good.  Which was great news but at the same time confusing because I am not a 4.0 student, but I'm also not a lower than a 3.0 student either.  But whatev.

On a side note, this semester I am taking 11 credits.   My classes consist of Biology, Microbiology, and Zoology.  Biology and Zoology (a.k.a Anatomy) are both re-takes because I got C's in them last time.  I wanted to retake them to try to get a higher grade so I can be competitive enough for the Nursing Program.  I'm super happy because I just have this semester left and one more class to take in the summer and I will finally be able to apply for the program! Hooray!!!!!  I really, really, really am hoping that I make it in the program because there's no other thing in life that I want to do.  I am going to be a nurse.  Period.  Have I said that enough already? ;)

Biology seems easier now that I have taken other science classes like Chemistry and Anatomy; I'm really glad because things make better sense now. :)  Microbiology doesn't seem as hard as I thought it would be but we'll see if I change my mind in the forthcoming weeks.  I totally enjoy Anatomy!!  It's kind of overwhelming though because there's so many things to learn.  Fortunately, I still remember much of the gross anatomy I had to learn in lab a year ago; however, I'm still a little iffy on the lecture portion of it.  Anatomy lecture is just hard.  There are too many details, a lot of terminology, too much stuff!!!  Nevertheless, I feel confident that I will do better than I did a year ago.  I just know it!

So anybody going to school this semester? If so, what's your major?
